Porcelain Puzzle jug decorated in blue and white with flowers and birds in reserved panels. It features an openwork neck and a Dutch pewter mount in the form of a sea‑creature (cetacean).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
The Puzzle Jug appears to have originated and become widespread in 17th‑century England, with the most iconic examples being the English Delftware models.
Its defining feature is that one cannot pour the contents without spilling — unless one knows the secret. A concealed system of internal conduits runs around the handle and the opening, bypassing the main spout; a hidden aperture enables the liquid to flow properly. The piece carries a distinctly playful and convivial character.
