Blue and White porcelain flared plate, decorated with a balcony scene. Two figures stand on a balcony beneath a prunus blossom tree. The border is ornamented with cartouches containing butterflies, alternating on a background of floral frieze in blue and green. Mark of a double circle on the underside.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

Similar and more common models do exist. They are often painted in Famille‑Verte enamels, and frequently with a larger diameter (24.5 cm). While the dating of such plates naturally tends to the Kangxi Emperor period, attributing them to the early years of the reign of Yongzheng Emperor would not be unreasonable. The floral borders and the way the figures are rendered suggest a delicacy that one may observe later under Yongzheng.
