Auguste le Fort (1670‑1733), King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, maintained throughout his life a deep and passionate interest in art — and in particular porcelain. Alongside his near‑obsessive collection of pieces from the European manufacture Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, he also gathered porcelain from China and Japan — the very source from which Meissen drew inspiration to create fine European hard‑paste porcelain.
