A small lobed porcelain dish with blue and white decoration depicting a galloping horse among waves, also adorned with prunus blossoms. The wave motif is repeated on the reverse.
On the reverse, a Six-character Chenghua mark within a double circle.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
The examples of similar dishes referenced in “Leaping the Dragon Gate, The Sir Michael Butler Collection, Teresa Canepa & Katharine Butler, 2021” are dated from the Chongzhen period. However, other similar models are recorded from the Shunzhi and Kangxi periods. While we date this particular example to the transitional period, the possibility that it was produced in the late early Kangxi period cannot be excluded.
