A Famille Verte “Magu and Deer” Klapmut

A Klapmut-type bowl with a central decoration of the goddess Magu and a deer. The bowl combines famille verte enamels with an iron-red tending towards coral red, and gilt. The background of the central scene features a motif of lingzhi mushrooms.

The rim is richly decorated in coral red with alternating butterflies and crickets, interspersed with swastika motifs.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

Magu is the Taoist goddess of longevity. She is often depicted with a deer, itself a symbol of long life and prosperity. Here, she is shown holding peaches of immortality.
