A Famille Rose octagonal porcelain plate with a central decoration showing a lady being served tea by two attendants. The border is ornamented with landscape scenes in cartouches. The plate bears the quartered coat of arms of the Gordon and Forbes families.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
Although this decoration appears on two types of armorial models — Gordon/Forbes and Powell/Cleland — dating from the Qianlong period (1736–1795), the central scene depicting a young woman on a silk carpet being served by her attendants was already used during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723–1735). Indeed, the earliest known variant of this design features a gold‑decorated border (see Christie’s “Noble & Private Collections Part I”, 2 November 2016, lot 57).
Finally, a large dish adorned with this decoration is held in our collections, and has been published by us in a catalogue in June 2025.
